After the painful lessons learned from the 80's "demolishing old and building new" transformation of the ancient city, China's traditional architectural heritage protection gradually moves towards the rational development at the end of the 20th century. In recent years, China's traditional cultural heritage is well recognized by the people and has evolved into a new stage. Many of the traditional skills can be preserved and play an important role.It is generally believed that skills is an important part of Chinese traditional architecture protection. At the same time, skills roots with a specific time and people. Begin with the research of brick art can give us a comprehensive understanding of traditional Chinese decoration development. Therefore, it also provides the necessary support to better protect traditional architecture.Succession comes after protection. From this perspective, China's current building decoration, nourished from the traditional architecture, can not be presented correctly. Research on the traditional concept of decoration localization once again becomes the inheritance of research focus.This paper begins with belief of architecture decoration localization, continues with Yangzhou brick art as the breakthrough point and comes with the definition and conceptual description of building decoration "localization" and "modernity". All these parts are clearly elaborated. There are four parts: the first part is primarily research on the origin of decorative concept in China traditional architect from three aspects: origin, characteristics and present ways of Chinese ancient building in the "decoration" concept formation. Second part is a preliminary research on the social background and manufacturing processes of Yangzhou brick art. The third part elaborates the phenomenon and essence of Yangzhou brick art. After reflecting on the second part, third part details out an artistic characteristics, functional structures, and decorative approach of the entire concept of Yangzhou brick arts. Part IV relates the decorative brick with Chinese modern decorative architecture and focus on two aspects: First, current application of folk-style decoration in modern China; Second, implication of brick art to the development of modern Chinese architecture decoration design.
