The standardization of metro sign system meets the function requirement and embodiment in metro public environment. The sign system design provided passengers with information language and visual communication basing on "Function First" design originality. The progress of the society calls for higher standards for metro sign system, which not only requires function rationality, but also needs aesthetic quality. Rejecting mediocrity, pursuing quality. Satisfying the increasing spiritual demand has become a more and more important objective to designers.This paper presents an in-depth research on metro sign system. It begins with an analysis on established metro sign systems home and abroad, in which the contents and factors are standardized and consummated. Then the research gives an opinion on metro sign system design from the perspectives of quality and innovation, integrating with an analysis on modern excellent sign system design. The author tries his best to make some abstraction, sublimation and innovation on the design concept, and as a result, meet the innovative and standardized requirements.This paper aims to achieve two objectives as follows:1. Making a thorough research on new concept, new approaches and new forms of urban metro sign system, from a modern perspective.2. Putting forward the timely-updating problem on existing metro sign system, by which aims to make some substantial attempts on Hangzhou Metro Sign System.
