Music album cover is an album packaging form, which is a visual interpretation and performance of the packaged material. Besides, an independent music label (IML) design has been showing of an independent value of art. Under the plight of contemporary social culture and arts, we can read a picture of contemporary social culture and the charm of arts and graphic design from independent record label's poetic and fresh design fragments.At the beginning, I briefly introduced the source of the study, the literature review, the research and its methods and value. Although the research is based on my personal professional experience and interest, the unique and practice significance to design industry is the real value and the origins of my research.In order to get into the heart of IML cover design, I have to introduce IML and discuss its concept and characteristics firstly. Thus, I can reveal the fact that IML provide a free, independent artistic environment and vehicle for design arts. Secondly, an IML cover still is a kind of music album cover, so I introduce the characteristics and status of music album cover design, which construct the theoretical basis of the research. Based on large quantities of my collected IML covers, I analysis and infer the characteristics of the IML cover design, and introduce IML in British taking the rise of independent art. It shouldn't be ignored is that we're living in the plight of mass consumer culture and visual culture world, design is trying to divide from art, therefore we do need have our spiritual home. As a kind of social and culture background, Post-modern social art status impact on IML cover design, and Post-modern art forms have become the main approach and the value of IML cover design.Through the analysis of a large number of IML cover design work, I summed up the special and fresh design features of IML cover are wandering between the vulgar and the pioneer, pursuing an independent design, finding poetry and having collection value. Its philosophy is humble attitude and revealing truths position. In the plight of post-modern society, it reflects the wishes and responsibility of artists.In conclusion, the research is aimed at showing off the unique contemporary visual patterns, and wishes to re-find the value of its existence as a form of cultural forms. As a kind of design and culture forms, it has the value of professional exchange and study as well as practice significance of contemporary image documents.
