High Temperature Superconducting Fault Current Limiter integrates detection, triggering and limiting abilities, it is considered the best limiting equipment until now. For the SFCL installed in the power system has impact on relaying protection, and the impact on the distance protection is especially distinct. So the SFCLs' influence analysis on power system operation is the focus points for power system researchers and engineers in and aboard.This paper presents some basic characteristics and working parameters of Superconducting Fault Current Limiters (SFCLs) and the installation position in power grids. Different types of SFCls' influence on the distance protection is detailedly analyzed in the second half part of this paper for the first time. A new setting method is proposed. In the end, the new method is tested by using a simulation example.Then, the power characteristics of the system installed with SFCLs are presented in details and the transient process of power systems is analyzed by using the equal area criterion. It's the first time the influence between SFCLs and automatic reclosing is analyzed. The first explanation for the mechanism of SFCL's influence on transient stability of power system is also given. Then the mechanism is tested by using PSASP.At last, a theoretical design for saturated core superconducting fault current limiter is made. And short circuit experiment, limiting ability experiment and reclosing experiment are also done on prototype, it verified the characteristics of prototype and the design method.
