To cater for the development trend of high digital degree and lightweight in modern multiple launch rocket system (MLRS), integrating with the research of mini-launcher for teaching demonstration, a tracking control system is designed and investigated in this paper, aiming at defects such as low digital degree, low positioning and tracking accuracy in traditional MLRS.Embedded technology, field bus technology, AC servocontrol technology and sensor technology are applied, and a digital tracking control system with four kinds of work mode is designed. An overall design project on embedded system is put forward, using RS-485 bus internal system and CAN bus between systems. And the rationality of using the two kinds of bus is analysed. A double-axis close-loop AC position servocontrol system, based on permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), KOLLMORGEN motor driver BDS5, resolver transformer and resolver to digital signal converter (RDC), is constructed. A 32-bit RISC cost-effective microprocessor S3C2410 is used as the kernel of the host computer, and the top-bottom design approach is adopted in hardware design. The open-source Linux is chosen as the embedded operation system and an application software development platform is built. Four patterns of tracking control program are designed by interactive control between host computer and BDS5.Prototype experimental study on the system is carried out. The result of tests shows that the tracking control system has fulfilled the design criteria with high accuracy and powerful dynamic performance. The success of mini-launcher not only provides an excellent teaching demonstration apparatus, but also caters for the digital development trend of modern weapon, and provides a good method for digital improvement on traditional MLRS in service and research on lightweight, high-mobility modern MLRS.
