Light is a natural and wildly used resource.although people used it in landscape design for a long time and handed down many successful cases,there was no systemic research in this field.In recent years,people started to pay more attention to this place.Acording to the analyzing and contrasting the learning of this field,we considered that people always focus their attention on man-made light and the enjoying of the light itself in landscape design,but less fervency in the elements which the whole entironment of light was made of.there still a big space for us to study something about traditional garden's material,the usage of these things and the relationship between the technical and esthetics.to be one of the material in landscape,light is very important,traditional garden supplies us many ways of light using ways,combine the technical and esthetics together.we should make great efforts in it.This article choose the "light" and the "shadow" as a start to study traditional garden,in order to provide a new way for garden's technical research and find a new direction to encourage it's development under the new times.
