The southern private gardens and the Chinese antique landscape paintings are derived from the same origin. Since the landscape paintings was born, the examples of putting the idea of paintings into the creation of gardens and taking the theory of paintings as that of gardens have been seen everywhere in the southern private gardens. Although these two expressions are different, their creative subject, modes and thoughts are quite the same. The idea of managing positions in the Chinese traditional landscape paintings permeates deeply through the creative art of the southern private gardens, the techniques such as highlighting main points and spacing artistically are used to organize architecture, hills, water, flowers and trees to form the picturesque scene. This paper explores the application of landscape picture-composition mode in the southern private gardens from the mode of landscape picture-composition and the layout characteristic of the southern private gardens, which is positive to use the theory of landscape paintings to research the Chinese antique gardens.
