The microwave plasma lamp (MPL) is a kind of electrodeless lamp which has the property of producing a pleasant spectrum in the plasma state excited by microwave energy in resonant cavity. Though viewed as the most promising green light source of new century, it didn't achieve civil industrialization because of many difficult problems, for instance, the useful life of lamp. There are many parts of MPL in need of being improved from theory to experiment. The researchers of vacuum electron R&D department of the Witol Factory of Midea Company are developing the new lamp product. The manufacture had considerable scale so that the first products were delivered to JunLan Golf Course for lighting. But as a new product, the immature technology caused many problems consequentially, which must be solved with the development of plasma lamp. My work on the project of MPL was improving the technical difficulty presented in the first products.There are mainly six parts in the MPL, including power supply, magnetron, electric engine, waveguide, resonate cavity, filling materials, etc. It was deeply discussed on the optimum design about the six aspects. The problem of lamp, the idea of improvement, the achievement of innovation was all introduced in the thesis. In the addition, it was especially researched on optimum design, capability of lamp and material of resonate cavity.Simulating the MPL, which involving the model establishment in cool state and explore in hot state, calculating and analyzing the optical efficiency, was the part of theory work in the thesis. In the improvement and innovation of lamp practical application, the main works were as follows: designing new waveguide and resonant cavity, researching material and technic of resonant cavity, improving the technic of filling material into lamp bulb, applying new style of power supply, and putting into effect the totally enclosed natural cooling structure.According to above improving and researching, the present product of MPL had reached first-class at home and the world advanced level. Some nature, such as optical efficacy, life length, color rendering index, and match, had been substantially raised, some of them exceeded the targets of project. Learned from many articles published, it was systematically generalized and summarized the technical level reached at home in the thesis. Hope anybody who devote into this work by reading it will make less mistake, avoid repetition work and find some guide to resolve problems so as to achieve civil industrialization early.
