Jinan Power Grid, which lies in the center of Shandong Power Grid, is in charge of the whole mission of power supply in Jinan City. Over the past few years, the growing demands in power supply reliability are needed by the users because of the rapid development of Jinan Power, the increasing Power Grid and the power to the market. In addition, the development of substations is demanded more compactly and attractively in recent years due to the shortage of land resources and the urban construction. The development of technical requirements make the substation design period being continuously shortened. Owing to these common factors, we urgently need an effective design concepts and design methods.In this paper, we introduce the new trends of typical design in Jinan 220KV Substation through combining with the operation manners and characteristics of Jinan Power Grid and the boosting of an old 110KV Substation. Applying the new design methods and design concepts, we systematically research and argument the recommended blue print in four aspects such as primary electric, secondary electric, civil engineering and Techno-economic indicators. We optimize the main wiring and layout, standardize the Equipment Selection, decrease the city occupy space, protect the environment and implement the automation of Distribution Network. In the recommended scheme, we adopt the modularized design means, which change from the case-by-case mode to the standard-model mode, and implement the intensive management, take advantage of the scale, improve the construction and management efficiency of Power Grid project and satisfy the demand of the large-scale construction of power grids.If the typical design of Jinan 220KV Substation is widely applied and promoted, it will benefit the Jinan substations to unify construction standards and equipment criterion, to reduce the consumption of resources and land occupy, to improve the work efficiency, to decrease the costs of construction and operation, and to establish the solid foundation for the work such as power grid planning, cost control, capital management and focus-scale tender. The modularized design means have a lot of advantage: reasonable modularizing, flexible interface, diverse program and convenient changes in the scale. In a certain period of time, the proposed scheme can adapt to the different scales, the different formats and the different external conditions. Moreover, there are more notable applications along with the substation design period being continuously shortened.
