The South-north water transfer is an oversize bay-basin water transfer engineering that will solve the problem of the water resource scarcity in north of china. Since the 50 years , the quantity of tunable water of the Dan jiang kou reservoir is a multiple point of argumentation in preliminary phase work of the South-north water transfer at all times and also is the one of the most important problem of argumentation in all circles. There are many factor can affect the quantity of tunable water of the Dan jiang kou reservoir ,not only bearing on the quantity of water inflow which lie on the hydrometeor condition but also relation with the change of reservoir capacity after the heightening the Dan jiang kou reservoir major dam, the dispatching method of reservoir, water consumption of headwater of the Dan jiang kou reservoir, the requirement of quantity of dewatering of the downstream, the scale of general main canal diversion diverting water from Han river and so on. To rationally define the quantity of tunable water of the Dan jiang kou reservoir, many internal research institutes, especially the designing institutes of Chang jiang conservancy, have been doing a large number of research effort, and took the abundant production. Based on existing research production, This article, contacting with boundary condition of having been heightening engineering of the Dan jiang kou reservoir dam, and harnessing engineering of the downstream and middle river of the Han river, according to analyzing the quantity of water resource of the Dan jiang kou reservoir, water consumption of headwater, the requirement of quantity of dewatering of the downstream, and the dispatching method of reservoir, study the most abstract quantity of tunable water and the actually quantity of tunable water effected by reservoir dispatching and scale of general main canal of the Dan jiang kou reservoir.This paper introduces the situation of rainfall, flowing off and evaporation, analyze the gross mount of water resource of the Dan jiang kou reservoir. Using the model and water resource system calculation procedure including surface water, ground water, gross mount of water resource, available water supply, water requirement of basin, reservoir dispatching, quantity of tunable water and so on, this paper analyze the quantity of native water falling into the reservoir, headwater actuality, water consumption in 2010 and 2030, forecast the quantity of water falling into the reservoir in 2010 and 2030, find out the irrigation water , industrial water, municipal water, stock water of middle river and downstream of Han river(from the Dan jiang kou reservoir downward to the infall of Han river and Chang-jiang river) in 2010 and 2030. This article construed the ecology and environment and marine traffic of the downstream of Han-river after adopting four structural measures. Then the paper defines the quantity of blow down water of reservoir. By integrated calculation, the article defines the actual quantity of tunable water in case of different scale of general main canal and dispatching method in 2010 and 2030. For water stress of reception basin of midline engineering, the paper analyzes and demonstrate the rational scale of water diversion engineering.According to the lone list figure during 1956~1968 , the quantity of water falling into reservoir in the average several years of the Dan jiang kou reservoir is 38.8 billion m~3, water consumption of the headwater is 2.2 billion m~3, net quantity of water falling into reservoir is 36.6billion m~3, the requirement quantity of dewatering of downstream is 16.2 billion m~3, the most abstract quantity of tunable water is 20.4 billion m~3.As restrict of dispatching method and scale of general main canal, the quantity of tunable water of the Dan jiang kou reservoir is 8.3~15.36 billion m~3.Contacting with water resource program results of reception basin of midline engineering, the article recommend the diversion discharge of designing scale of general main canal is 350m~3/s in 2010, the number will be 630 m~3/s in 2030, quantity of tunable water is 9.7 billion m~3, in 2030, the amount will be 13.193~15.36 billion m~3.
