Transportation planning and management is a multi-discipline subject which dwells on transportation laws . It plays an important role for people recognizing and researching on the development of transport, as well as recognizing advantage of micro-management and the macro-control . As a transport subsystem , the development of shipbuilding has drawn increasing attention. In order to improve the quality of ship design , this article, which is based on an analysis of the traditional teaching methods , applies the latest achievement in the development of computer to teaching process so as to achieve the desired effect of teaching. The article builds up a set of Engine Room Piping Teaching System which will make " Engine Room Piping Systems" teaching change from two-dimension to three-dimension and be more visualized. The teaching system, which achieves with some software, will also increase the students' curriculum design time effectively, decrease the tedious calculating process and save the time spending on collecting products information.The paper is divided into seven parts. Chapter One outlines the development of ship CAD , analyses on the status of traditional piping teaching and brings forward the thought of developing a set of appropriate teaching system. In Chapter Two , basic thought and requirement of development and application are introduced and a flow chart is designed. In Chapter Three , after giving comprehensive analysis and research on this teaching system, the function and character of five modules are expatiated on. In Chapter Four , some software is compared and the suitable is chosen. In Chapter Five, the teaching system , which includes drawing base, pipeline formula base and information base, is made by using major development tools such as AutoCAD, Excel and Microsoft Word. The structure of the data base concerned is designed on the basis of analysis. In Chapter Six, ADO technique of C++ Builder is used to make contact with the database and various function modules of the teaching system are come true.
