The topic selected in this paper results from practical project designs. In recent years the enlarging enrollment of colleges and universities has stimulated the scale expansion of construction of students' rooming houses. In this paper, the electrical equipment installations of several new types of students' rooming houses have been described. And as for their traditional management modes of power consumption, the deficiencies have also been discussed. Besides, advanced modes are firmly advocated to spread in colleges and universities, and a modern consuming concept of commercialization of electric power has been emphasized. Thus, it is possible to make the electric design of students' rooming houses become ordered, standardized, and modulusized, which will shed light on the later work concerned.In this paper, in terms of lighting system, power supply and rationing system, lightning protection and grounding safety, there are delicate descriptions and explanations. Also, the signal electric system is briefly discussed. In the process of lighting system design, the principle of application, comfort, safety, and economy should be considered, and environmental protection and energy saving should be taken into account as well. With regard to power supply and rationing system, there are three sections— power distributions of ending lines and storeys, electric supply from power source. It is stressed that the circuit breaker should setup creepage protection in order to avoid electrical fire. It is also emphasized the importance of the thunder-proof of power source system and signal system as well as the necessity of the equipotential bonding . A survey is carried out to investigate the fact load of power consumption of the 2-to-5-year-built students' rooming houses in two universities, with an afterward factor analysis of the low level consumption. There is also an offer of a quick calculating method of power consumption and a calculation of the coefficient number concerned too. Plus, a power control system of intellectual ability, which especially applies to students' rooming houses, is mainly discussed, and its future applying prospect is also mentioned. In addition, electric system design should be in tune with those of architecture, construction, water supply and drainage, air-conditioning, so on and so forth. An excellent plan of power design results from the harmonious coordinations of various designs mentioned above. The appendix offers a set of working drawing of the power design of the students' rooming houses of a university, which may deliver a valuable hand to similar project designs.
