| This dissertation mainly analyzed and researched the harm of vortex vibration in the round cross-section rod of quayside container and the necessary to control the crosswind vibration. The current measures of control vibration and the lack of them were listed in this paper. We brought forward two measures which will be very useful to control the vortex vibration and had done a lot of experiments. At last, some suggestions for application are forwarded according to the experimental results.The main form of the rod wind vibration in quayside container is crosswind vibration, especially the vortex-induced vibration. This kind of vibration is caused by the alternate shedding vortex behind both sides of the rod when wind blow. Besides, in case the vortex shedding frequency is equal to a inhere frequency of rod, the rod will arises the vortex shedding resonance or called vortex resonance. The resonant velocity of wind has directly relation to the inhere frequency of structure, and the inhere frequency of the round cross section rod is affected by many factors. One of the main factors is the restriction status in two ends of the rod. In this paper, the vibration frequency of round cross section rod in quayside crane and the resonance wind speed in different status were calculated. Including the theory status, the actual status and the status after improvement. Some conclusions were summarized according to the contrast of the vibration frequency and the resonance wind speed in different status. These conclusions can be referred in the design process of quayside crane.In order to control the wind induced vibration of the round cross section rod in quayside crane, especially the windcross resonant vibration, there are many measures to restrain the vibration, the easy way is to assemble some interference generator which can break the rule of alternate shedding vortex, then the windcross vibration force is reduced. By now, there isn't very effective measures were used in the structure design of quayside crane.
