With the rapid development of steel industry in our country, the demand for the iron ore is becoming larger and larger and the supply for iron ore will be the main factor to restrict the development of steel industry in the long run. In recent years, the import of iron ore in China has been growing rapidly, with an average of over 30% increasing rate annually. Most iron ores are transported by CAPESIZE vessel with the dead weight over 100,000T. However, there are limited ports in China which could directly discharge these vessels, most of the iron ores have to be transshipped by the second carriage or the third carriage to the destination. Currently, the conditions for second carrier isn't satisfactory, as a result of which the evaluation for the second carrier type is valuable in reality.By definition, ship type evaluation is using the calculation of assessment criteria and the economic standard or criterion of assessing the scheme feasibility, on the basis of the comparisons of the results of all schemes, to select the optimal scheme. Ship type evaluation is a systematic project, with the close combination of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. The traditional evaluation methods include NPV method, IRR method, RPR method, RFR method ,and so on. These methods have their own advantages and disadvantages. To choose the optimal scheme of ship type evaluation is the result of comprehensive assessments. This thesis applies factor analysis in ship type optimization and uses this method to comprehensively grade the alternative ship types of second Carriage iron ore shipment from Majishan to Bao steel and finally gets the optimal ship type for this line. The main content of this thesis includes: the second chapter analyzes the current situation of iron ore transportation in the world; the third chapter introduces the current situation of importing iron ore in our country, by listing...
