With the development of highway, more and more constructions such as culverts have been built under highly filled embankment. Otherwise, the usage of the highway is impacted because related theory and research work is not mature and systematical, which contributes to the accidents and damage. Base on the centrifugal simulation system and project experience, this paper states the mechanical properties of the culverts with the different rigid concrete bases and the properties of earth pressure around. Furthermore, the paper brings forward the best shape of the base through the finite element method and analyse of the experiment. In the centrifugal experiment, wire strain gauge was stuck at the certain position on the model culvert to get the strain, which can be converted to the stress of the structure and the earth pressure above. It shows that curved concrete rigid base is beneficial to reduce the internal force. Therein, an angle of 180 degree curved base is better than that of 110 degree curved base. Slab base can engender stress concentration, so it is not used often. Comparably, Marc finite element method gets the similar result through analyzing the internal stress and the earth pressure above with different bases. Through two ways of analyse, this paper states the effect of the base to the internal stress and the earth pressure and its variety with the increase of the soil above. It offers a helpful reference to the design work later.
