Different from traditional reinforced concrete structure, the self-weight of lightweight steel structure is relatively light, so it is sensitive to wind. Because the weight of the exterior-protected construction of lightweight steel structure is also light, the exterior-protected construction is easy to be destroyed by the wind load firstly. Therefore, the whole effect of the lightweight steel structure and the local effect of the exterior-protected construction, done by the wind, should be considered synthetically, when doing wind resistance design for lightweight steel structure. But the wind load shape factor is given generally by the applicable loading code, which is of the whole structure. The wind pressure distributions on the surface of the structure are not given, and the influence of the subaerial turbulence is not considered sufficiently by the wind load shape factor given by the applicable loading code.The model of the lightweight steel cantilevered structure is light-footed. Sometimes the cantilevered length is relatively long and the thickness of the lightweight steel cantilevered structure is thin, so it is sensitive to the effect of the wind. Many damage phenomena of this kind of component can be found in every year's strong wind. Because of the large coverage area, the open base surface structural style (which is called hollowness structure here) is usually adopted by many presently appearing novel lightweight steel structures, such as the large-scale lightweight steel structure gas station, to save materials, and this kind of structure is also sensitive to the wind, like the lightweight steel cantilevered structure. Many collapse phenomena of this kind of structure are also found in every year's strong wind.Contraposing the deficiency of the applicable loading code in guiding wind resistance design, the study on numerical simulation of static wind load on the lightweight steel cantilevered and hollowness structure is done by CFD numerical simulation technology in this paper. The feature of wind load effect and the law of wind pressure distributions on the surface of the structure are obtained. The research work of this paper is mainly focused on the following aspects:1. Numerical simulation of wind load on Texas Tech Building (which is low building) and square pillar (which is high-rise building) of W.D.Bains' report, are done by using structured and unstructured mesh and differential turbulence models. The wind pressure distributions on the surface of the structure are obtained under each condition considered, and the result is compared with corresponding wind tunnel experimental value and actual observation data.
