In recent years, along with the extensive applications of the Geographic Information System and the Satellite Positioning technique, the Intelligent Transportation System used to resolve the city transportation problem gets to develop quickly. As one of the important parts of the Intelligent Transportation System, the Vehicle Navigation System has already become a popular research direction in social researches. However, because of our country starting late, the applications for Vehicle Navigation System concentrate mainly on controlling and monitoring vehicles. And in the aspects of Vehicle Automobile Navigation in wild areas, there are hardly any mature product come out. Its main reason is because the algorithms of the fittest path can't meet the needs of real-time navigating, and this is the main research contents of the paper.Firstly, the paper introduces the background and significance of the Vehicle Navigation System, and gives a simple review of the domestic and international development condition.Secondly, on the base of introduction for the Vehicle Television and Speech Navigation System of the type of HST-820, the paper focuses on discussing the design and storing of road network in the path layout of wild areas, and gives the algorithms design and realization of path calculating suitable for vehicle navigating in big districts - the A* algorithms based on layering.Finally, the paper makes a simple summary aiming at the study contents and the outlook for the research direction of the future.
