With the clue of architecture, this article sorts out and analyses the postmodern context of philosophy , politics—economy , culture—art and architecture in which architecture lies, then studies possible relationship between the two in terms of clearing and deepening the understanding of postmodern architecture. In the 60s and 70s of 20th century, there happens a series of important revolutions in western capitalist world. These revolutions have profoundly changed people's mode of producing, living and thinking. Finally, a great number of changes have caused a powerful movement which called "postmodern" .(The word "postmodern" was firstly used before 1926, even in the 70s of 19th century, John · Watkins · Chapman—a British artist—had already introduced the word.) Under this social background, architecture have inevitably changed. The old concept has been deconstructed, and the meaning of architecture has been greatly enriched. Although it is out of my capacity to precisely summary such important changes, this article tries to offer you some limited understandings. So the value of this article lies in a combination of these understandings and the description of postmodern context. The relationship between postmodern and China is not included, but there is one thing that must be pointed out: in China, the question of postmodern is a fake one. The question of "postmodern" is originally produced by the logical development of western times. Its basement lies in the western society. But this logical development dose not exist in China. However, this dose not affect our study of postmodern, and I believe this study will be helpful to our development.
