The stability of pavement materials in cold, droughty and salty area has became one of the important research projects of engineering materials. Asphalt concrete has been widely used in road construction because of its good mechanical properties, low noise, economy and durability. The stability improvement of asphalt concrete by mineral fillers has been long used in engineering project in the world. Mineral powder, such as lime stone, cement and coal-ash has been added to asphalt concrete as filler. These mineral fillers can greatly improve the stability of asphalt concrete. In this article, all of the study of asphalt concrete filler was overviewed and the mechanism of filler improving asphalt concrete stability and the factors that affect asphalt concrete stability was expounded. A new method of powder A as filler to improve asphalt concrete stability was suggested. The mineral powder A is a fibred nanometer super-fine powder with diameter in 40~60nm and length about linn which is fabricated and physical treated from chain silicate. At present, the fabrication techniques of mineral powder A still need further developments. In the experiments, limestone, cement and coal-ash were used according to the OAC (Optimal Asphalt Content) and the same ratio of asphalt and mineral, the effects of the mineral powder A to high-temperature stability, low-temperature stability and water stability of asphalt concrete was comparatively analysed. The results showed the mineral powder A as filler improved the stability of asphalt concrete dramatically and its properties are better than other common fillers. It not only improved the one aspect of the asphalt concrete stability, but also the stabilities in high-temperature, low-temperature and water situations wholly.Because the mineral powder A was obtained by native minerals. Therefore, the results of this thesis have great practical applications in northwest region where is lack of road construction materials and most of road construction materials are bought from other regions.
