It has been proved that using electric-control fuel-injection gasoline engine and three-way catalyst was the main method to control automobile emission. In order to monitor catalyst timely and set some useful information about catalyst's work state to the driver, many automobiles are installed with OBD system. Based on some experiments, this paper investigated the method of viaing the inlet-outlet temperature difference of catalyst to monitor catalyst's work efficiency. In this paper, we have done many experiments of catalyst's inlet-outlet temperature difference character when the engine was in stable state of different speed and load. This approach utilized the raw data obtained from catalyst inlet-outlet temperature sensors and gas analyzer, after a statistical treatment to yield the necessary information about the catalyst of efficiency. This paper also described a calculating model which can be used to the diagnostic monitoring of catalyst performance.
