At present, finite element analysis technique has being playing a more and more important role in design of engine components. It can not only shorten design cycle ,but also improve design accuracy. This paper is aimed at applying finite element analysis of static strength of Model B3E Gasoline connecting rod to evaluate the stress and strain and the dangerous part of the connecting rod under different conditions. So it can provide reliable information for the design and improvement of the connecting rod.The geometric model is built by using 3-D CAD software Unigraphics(UG18), and the 3-D solid geometry of the connecting rod is meshed by using MSC.Patran, an FEM pre- and postprocessing software. And then, after the load and boundary conditions are applied, the model is submitted to FEM software MSC.Nastran to be solved. The results of the stress and deformation of B3E gasoline connecting rod under two most unfavorable cases are visualized in MSC.Patran. In the simulation, the MPC technique of MSC.Nastran is used to simulate the mechanical behavior of contact between the interfaces of piston pin and bearing of small end, crankpin and big end bearing, connecting rod body and bearing cap; also constraints are applied to the connecting rod reasonably. Finally, fatigue strength of the rod is checked on the basis of the results and also comes to the conclusion of the general rules of stress distribution of the connecting rod under the conditions of both maximum pull and press load. In the meantime, This study shows that the use of FEM in the design of components is practical and important and FEM will become more perfect by virtue of it.
