The connecting rod, important part and mainly moving component of diesel engine, has complicated structural shape and loading condition. To a large extent, the reliability and using life of the connecting rod has a great effect on diesel engine. At home and abroad, there are masses of literature about structure analysis of the connecting rod. The Finite Element Method is one of numerical calculation methods in computational mechanics, which has the biggest influence and is the most widely used method. And also, it is a normal way about structure analysis.By taking a kind of diesel engine connecting rod produced by a factory as the research object, a complicated connecting rod assembly model which includes piston pin, piston pin bushing, big end bearing, connecting rod, big end cover, connecting rod screw and crank pin are set up by using 3D modeling software Pro/Engineer. And new calculation method, that is, 3D Contact Finite Element Method, are brought, and interference fits among piston pin bushing and big-end bearing and connecting rod, the effect of connecting rod screw pretightening force in connecting rod working are calculated based on this method. In order to getting a real simulation loads and constraints which have an effect on connecting rod, the effect of piston pin and crank pin are brought. The calculation model is completely assembled by material objects, and interactions among every part of connecting rod, piston pin and crank pin are completely simulated according to 3D contact relationship.Based on the 3D Contact Finite Element analysis of the connecting rod, it gets the statement of deformation and stress, and validates the fatigue strength of the connecting rod. At the same time, it designs the static tensile and compression experiment and validates that it is right to use 3D Contact Finite Element Method for strength analysis of the connecting rod. At last, this paper gets the dynamic stress distribution and deformation of the connecting rod based on the transient analysis.
