Voltage instability or collapse has been the subject of recent investigations, which extends the concepts of power system stability. Based on the summarization of previous work, this dissertation conducts systematical research work on static voltage stability, such as load modeling and contingency screening and ranking.ZIP load model is used to calculate the PV curves of the power system, and some meaningful conclusions are drawn by comparing its result with which constant power load model is used.Varying-admittance method is used to calculate the PV curves of the power system, and only parameters of static equivalent circuit is needed in the calculation. This method can be implemented easily and the static characteristic of induction motor can be calculated precisely. The paper also investigates the influence of stalling of induction motor to PV curves and voltage static stability, and studies the method for selecting the critical point. Some contingency screening and ranking algorithms for voltage security analysis are reviewed. Based on that, a new method is proposed.
