The phenomena of abutment staggering are always occurred in highway bridges. This severely affects the operate level of highway, and damages the structure of bridge and pavement, and increases the maintenance costs. Study technique measures to avoid and lessen abutment staggering is most worthy of doing for the engineering appliance. This paper use method of combining theory research with engineering. The factors that cause staggering in the bridge end and the location of expansion and contraction installation and the synthetic measures of prevention and lessening are analyzed. Improvement of the abutment structure design must combines with design of the abutment back. Using theory of semi-integral abutment, the jointless bridge, Shilong River Bridge, is designed and constructed. Some parameters in key part of bridge are tested. Theory of the semi-integral abutment structure and the abutment back structure are analyzed. The space computing modal of abutment-run-on slab-abutment back soil interaction is advised. The compute results are consistent with the practice results. The success of the Shilong river Bridge proves: the theory analysis of semi-integral abutment jointless bridge is right in this study, and construction technique of it is feasible and reliable, and this measures is effective for avoiding and lessening abutment staggering and is visible economized. The technique of semi-integral abutment jointless bridge has a bright future.
