Strengthening Concrete structure with Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) is a new structural repair method in recent years. Because of its resistance to electrochemical erosion, low manpower demand for application and minimal changes in geometrical dimensions of the member, the method has been found to be economical and efficient for application,Based on the previous work,we designed and conducted experiments of 10 reinforced concrete (RC) slabs strengthened with the common Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP);and investigated the effect, failure mechanism and theory. In order to study its efficiency of reinforcement,we tested the RC slabs in different conditions, the ratios of CFRP;the anchor forms for CFRP and the distribution plans of the FRP cloth. These different conditions result in different strengthening effects. The experimental results revealed that bonding CFRP sheet on the concrete slab can evidently increase the bend-resisting strength of the slab. The slab stiffness is also benefit slightly from it. Methods to determine the bend-resisting capacity of RC beams and plates strengthened with CFRP and the suggestions for the strengthening design are presented in the paper. The comparison between the experimental results and analytical results indicated that the proposed methods provide satisfactory predictions of ultimate strength. Calculation with the approximate formula has good agreement with the experimental results and will be a practical design method. Based on its mechanical characteristics,we also probed into the issues of bonding one-way slabs and compared them with the common strengthening beams with FRP...
