In this paper, a new type linear cutting feed unit using Kollmorgen Permanent Magnetic Brushless Liner Motor is designed for the purpose of the practical need of the piston machining. To develop the high frequency response and large travel cutting feed unit is a direction of the irregular surface turning technology. Therefore the project has realistic significance, and it includes such contents as follows:1. Gives a brief depict about the aim and background of the project. Introduces the domestic and overseas trends of the application on machine of the linear motor and the technical aspect related control theory.2. A proof-test is done after designing the linear cutting feed unit. There is enough stiffness to satisfy the need of practical machining.3. A closed loop control system based on PC is built. The theory module of the motor provides bases for the further research. The result of simulation indicates that the PI control arithmetic can suit the demand of the velocity loop.4. Some experiments such as orient precision, step- response, and frequency characteristic analysis is done on the base of successfully solved the galloping problem. Some targets about the control system such as celerity , accuracy, dynamic characteristic have been reached.5. Discusses the design of the fuzzy self-tuning of PID parameter. Theoretic analysis, simulation and experimental results are included to show the high performance of the fuzzy-PID controller.The conclusion of this project is that there is quite difficulty to use the Kollmorgen Liner Motor on the numerical control piston machining tool. Many work should be done in the future.
