The analysis of bearing capacity of laterally loaded vertical pile is more and more important in civil engineering. From the 20th Century to now , the research workers have put forward some methods in succession for the calculating of the bearing capacity of the pile under lateral load. These methods have their each advantage, drawback and scope of application. It's a very significant work to classify them compare them perfect them and make programs for themeThis paper introduces different kinds of methods of computing the bearing capacity of elastic long pile under lateral load and make the finite element programs for them. This paper uses these programs to compute the typical practical examples, compares and analyses these methods according to the result. At the end, combining with two typical types of wharf structure, this paper applies the above mentioned achievement in the computing of them .From the comparison and analysis of the computing result, this paper show the advantage drawback and scope of each method and put forward the suggestion. This paper also provides the practicable methods of computing the two types of wharf structure.
