Line heating is one of the most distinctive features in ship industry, which is used to bend the plate into specific shape. Because it involves a lot of experience and delicate manual operation, only veteran workers are competent to perform it. This, on the one hand, greatly obstructs the automation, and on the other, makes it very hard for the green hand to master. As a result, the technique is now meeting with the problem of handing down. The key to the problem is to quantify in a pragmatic way the effect that different factors have on plate shaping.Using processed experiment data of practical ship plate, the author establishes six linear regression models and three neural network models in this thesis with local contraction being the response variable. The explanatory parameters used in the models are attributed to the collaboration of Department of Naval Architecture, Dalian University of Technology and Dalian New Shipyard. Comparison is made in detail between the two algorithms and the corresponding models obtained.The contents of the thesis are summarized as follows:1. By using curved-fitting method, calculation of local angular deflection of canvas plate is studied, with the help of cubic spine function, canvas plate is formed and then its local angular deflection is worked out.2. Three models are established first by linear regression analysis with the experiment data of practical ship plate. Through comparisons between the three models obtained, the effect of each parameter on the local contraction, is examined, the conditions of application are estimated, and explanations are given to the error induced in the models obtained.3. On the base of summarizing the previous research results , the research works to be continued is presented and in which the key problems to be solved are also pointed out..
