Topics in the field of architecture are always about the "andscape", "reen architecture", "rban sustainability" The urban construction also focuses on the aspect of urban landscape, such as improvement of urban street, erection of central plaza. But the fifth vertical on architecture especially on housing, in not enough considered. Actually, the housing has large quantity, so its roof type and its color affects the urban landscape greatly and can not be neglected.This paper analyses the types and characteristics of housing roof and expatiates on the subject of variety of roof type and the importance of detail design of roof. It also indicates that it is necessary for the administration of urban planning to limit the housing roof type to a certain range.
