Skid resistance of pavement affects road safety significantly indicated by many researches and studies over the world. It is an effective approach to advance safety level through improving and maintaining good skid resistance of pavement. Generally, skid resistance of a new road pavement complies with official specification at the beginning in China, however, it degraded rapidly due to vehicle polishing in a short time. A study on the course of degradation of asphalt pavement accounted for above problem would be beneficial to asphalt mixtures design and pavement maintenance.Mechanism of skid resistance and factors influence on that are analyzed in detail in this paper. Then an accelerated polishing device is fabricated based on related material polishing device and researches. Parameters of the device determined by outcome of a tire/pavement pressure test employed an electrohydraulic servo fatigue test system.Two components in the test are unpolished specimens skid resistance test and asphalt mixtures accelerated polishing test in lab. Analyze of gradation and Max. Nominal Size how to affect initial value of BPN and MTD is conducted using outcome of unpolished specimens skid resistance test. Then the study employs exponential model and logarithmic model to simulate relation between BPN&MTD and load repetition numbers. Accord to the regression curve, factors affected skid resistance index and regularity of asphalt pavement surface degradation is analyzed.In the end, efforts to relate IFI (F60) and load repetition numbers is conducted. The paper finds that there is a good relation between IFI (F60) and load repetition numbers. Comparison of regression curve from this study and degradation curve from full-scale polishing test indicates that simulation test in lab complies with the situation in the field well.
