In recent years, the tailing accidents occurred from time to time in China, and which is a serious threat to people's lives and causing huge economic losses, moreover, which caused a irreversible impact to the environment. in this paper, several typical examples of tailings are used for analysis the changes of saturation line through theoretical research and numerical simulation, and find the main impact factors of tailings dam stability, such as dam height, external slope of dam, types of tailings, the length of dry tailings. The paper analyze the law of tailings operation after dam break using FLUENT, and do research on the stability and the effects of tailings migration to downstream after dam-break. The main contents are as follows:(1)Limit equilibrium method is utilized to analyze the effects of dam height, external slope of dam, types of tailings, the length of dry tailings, and discuss the factors and stability variation and provide reference for safety management and construction of tailings dam.(2)Using FLUENT software, two-dimensional dam model is built to analyze the migration law after tailings dam-break and the relationship between dam-break flood scope and various factors, such as forms of dam, dynamic viscosity of tailings, slope ratio of downstream and the height of tailings dam.(3)The paper analyze the stability of the status of Baoshan tailings dam and the final stability; and build three-dimensional numerical simulation to study the sand migration of a gold mine tailings dam in Hengfeng County and the effects to the lower reaches of the reservoir.
