Solar lighting as one of the most important use of solar energy, it received more and more attention form energy industry and lighting industry. Without accessing to public power grid, Solar lighting system uses sunlight that common exist in nature and human activities as its energy. Therefore, solar lighting not only alleviates the energy crisis in modern society, but also has green, clean and environmental benefits. Foremore, it can keep human society in sustainable development model.In this thesis, researches have been explored. Firstly, status and future development of solar lighting system are summarized; the distribution of solar energy is analysed; applications of solar lighting system is given. Secondly, characteristic and operational principles of solar LED lighting system are introduced. The optimal configuration method and parameters are given according to the relation between components of solar lighting system. Thirdly, several Maximum Power Point Tracking Algorithms are investigated. Comparative analysis between these Maximum Power Point Tracking Algorithms is given. Finally, according to optimal configuration aorameters, the solar lighting system controller hardware design based on C8051F340 SCM is given.The solar lighting system controller uses Pulse Width Modulation technology and Variable Perturbation and Observation Maximum Power Point Tracking Algorithm to control the optimal battery charging. With digital temperature sensor DS18B20 collecting temperature, solar controller carries out temperature compensation on the accumulator. So the life of accumulator is extended. In addition, half power control of the output and digital clock chip DS1302 make the control mode more intelligent and humanized. Finally, performance test of the solar LED lighting system was done, and it verified that the system had many advantages such as fully function, low power consumption, good stability. Besides, it's easy to maintain.The controller has been successfully applied in the solar LED lighting systems. Otherwise, it brings good economic and social benefits after Dacheng Electric Co.Ltd putting it into market.
