After several Transformation for Capacity Expansion, the production ability are 26,000t~28,000t every year at The Titanium Concentrator of Panzhihua Iron and Steel Group, which built in 1980.However, the recovery of the production system is relatively low , which is only 20%~23%, most of ilmenite resources have not been recovered. In order to enhance the recovery of ilmenite for fully utilize the titanium tailings resources, to provide sufficient raw materials, to improve economic efficiency and social benefits for the development of Titanium Industry of Panzhihua Iron and Steel, it is necessary to transform the existing process.Based on the on–site investigation of the technological flowsheet of Titanium Concentrator, it is clearly show that the causes of the main pathway of ilmenite loss in production system are complex production flowsheet,several production lines. Through the research of the present production techniques of Titanium Concentrator at home and abroad, and with the experience of titanium in The Titanium Concentrator of Panzhihua, the paper develops a new process flowsheet forTitanium Concentrator. Coarse-grained with high intensity magnetic separation–grinding–high intensity magnetic separation–flotation separation process replace the existed gravity separation–electrostatic separation process; fine ilmenite process of high intensity magnetic separation–high intensity magnetic separation–flotation separation replace the existed magnetic–flotation process.The test results in processing the tiny particle ilmenite at The Titanium Concentrator of Panzhihua Iron and Steel Group were: feed grade, 9.85%, titanium concentrate grade, 47.30%, and ilmenite recovery12.58%; the results of coarse-grained ilmenite were: feed grade,9.85%, titanium concentrate grade, 47.30%, and ilmenite recovery24.57%; The total recoveries are 37.15%, which can meet the request of Panzhihua Iron and Steel Group Transformation for Capacity Expansion.
