When mention Book Binding,the things that we talk about the most are the cover,layout,typographic design,etc.Actually,as an important component of a book,the fore-edge should be considered as well.As a matter of fact,whatever the point of view is from the history or reality,the fore-edge has never been out of people's sight - from fore-edge painting appeared as early as the 10^th century,to the display model of the western books that have experienced dramatic evolutions over 1200 years, and then to the modern so called "Mao-Bian party" represented by Lu Xun,etc.The secret concealed by the fore-edge and the plenty of diversifications caused by the infinite possibility of fore-edge have been always attracting peoples' eye-balls. It has been a long time,however,the fact that the fore-edge is an important component of a book has not been paid enough attention during book design.That is mainly because thefore-edge has not been considered an important way of conveying information.This article explores the new expression method of book design by emphasizing the perspective of statement model of the fore-edge language.While carding the history and the reality,this article raises bold hypothesis and proves it by integrating the actual process.If a book is regarded as a hexahedron,then the fore-edge should not be ignored,since it is such an important unit making up 50 percent of book structure.Instead,book fore-edge design should be paid more attention by designers.Fore-edge will be widely discussed if it has been granted the function of conveying information,Besides,the language charm and ample diversifications concealed from the fore-edge are worth of paying more attention and researching.
