21 new Schiff base (H2L = N, N'–bis (2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)-1,3-dia minopropane)) metal complexes have been synthesized and described in this paper. All complexes have been characterized by Elemental analyses, Infrared (IR), Ultraviolet-Visible (UV), Thermal gravimetric analysis. 13 new complexes among them have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray crysrallographic analysis. Namely, the mononuclear lanthanide complexes [LLn (NO3)3]2 [Ln = La (1), Sm (2), Gd (3), Lu (4)], and the 3d-4f heterobinuclear complexes [{LCu}Ln(NO3)3]·Me2CO [Ln = La(5), Sm(6), Tb(7), Lu(8)]; [{LNi(MeOH)2}Ln(NO3)3]·2MeOH [Ln = La(9), Pr(10), Gd(11), Tb(12), Lu(13)]; [{LZn(MeOH)2}Ln(NO3)3]·2MeOH [Ln = La(14), Eu(15), Gd(16), Lu(17)] and [{LCo}(CH3COO)2Ln(NO3)2] [Ln = La(18), Eu(19), Gd(20), Lu(21)]. X-ray crystallographic analysis indicates that the mononuclear lanthanide complexes display the dimmeric structure, the 3d-4f heterobinuclear complexes exhibit the discrect structure. Conductivity measurements show that all complexes behaved as electrolytes in methanol and DMF. The fluorescent spectra of all complexes reveal metal ion disturbed, ligand-centered emission. The variable-temperature magnetic properties of complex 3, 11, 16 and 20 have been investigated over the temperature range 2-300K at 500 Oe. Complexes 3 and 16 show an antiferromagnetic interaction among metallic ions. Complexes 11 and 20 show weak ferromagnetic interactions among metallic ions. Complexes using as catalyst catalyze ethylene and MMA polymerization and show a lower activity.
