| In this thesis, five new Schiff base ligands were synthesized fr om the reactions of o-vanillin and 2,4-dichlorobenzaldehyde with o-henylenediamine,4-methylbenze-1,2-diamine,[2,2’-bipyridine]-4,4’-diamine and 4,4’-((propane-2,2-diylbis(4,1-phenylene))bis(oxy)diphe nylamine. These Schiff base ligands were characterized by 1H NMR spectra, and their purities are more than 95%.The reactions of the se ligands with different 3d-metal and lanthanide salts result in vari ous 4f and d-4f complexes. The crystal structures of fifteen lanthani de-based complexes in five series were determined by X-ray diffract ometry.Meanwhile, they were characterized by thermogravimetry,po wder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray energy dis persion spectroscopy. These lanthanide-based complexes are:(i)chir al layer-like tri-nuclear lanthanide complexes{Ln3},Ln=Nd(1),Yb(2)and Ho(3);(ii)layer-like tri-nuclear Cd-Ln complexes{Cd Ln2},Ln=Nd(4),Yb(5),Sm(6)and Ho(7);(iii)sandwich-shap ed tri-nuclear Cd-Ln complexes{Cd2Ln},Ln=Nd(8)and Yb(9);(iv)planar tri-nuclear Zn-Ln complexes{Zn2Ln},Ln=Nd(10),Yb(11),Ce(12)and Dy(13);(v)planar hexanuclear Zn-Ln compl exes{Zn2Ln4},Ln=Nd(14),Yb(15).The study of luminescence properties shows that, the Schiff base ligands in the complexes can effectively transfer light energy to lanthanide ions, resulting in the near-infrared luminescence of the complexes.Further investigate exh ibits that complexes 1,5,9,10,14 and 15 show interesting lumine scent response to metal cations, anions and explosives. |
