APG is applied in many fields, such as detergent, cosmetics, food, medicine, pesticides and plastic.At present studying and producing APG is synthesized most by using glucose with natural fatty alcohol in the world. Making use of double alcohol conversion method, APG is synthesized by potato/ corn starch to replace glucose with ethylene glycol and dodecyl alcohol in the presence of p-toluenesufonic and pyridine in this article. The effects of reaction temperature, amount of catalyst, amount of glycol and double alcohol conversion stage reaction time are investigated. The optimal process conditions are Obtained. The optimum conditions of Potato starch-based APG are as follows: reaction temperature is 115℃, n(glucose unit of potato starch):n(ethylene glycol):n(dodecyl alcohol) : n (catalyst)= 1:5:3: 0.012, The yield was 122.53%; The optimum conditions of corn starch-based APG are as follows: reaction temperature is 120℃, n(glucose unit of corn starch):n(ethylene glycol):n(dodecyl alcohol) : n (catalyst) = 1:5:3: 0.014, The yield wasl30.72%. At last, Make infrared detection and the performance test about APG. Through analyzing infrared spectrogram, the characteristic peak of APG is found, This result shows that synthesizing APG by starch is feasible ; Through measuring properties of surface tension, foaminess, emulsification performance and compatibility performance. The result shows the potato/com starch-based alkyl Polyglycoside is one kind of surfactant of fine performance.
