High speed machining is an advanced manufacturing technique, growing up for about twenty years. It has a lot of adventages, for example, high material removal rate and high surface quality. At present the HSM technique has presented popularization tendency in developed countries, and there is a good development prospect domestically too. But the application of HSM has some limitations because of its big machining cost. So comprehensive evaluation of HSM on technique, cost, enviroment and other sides has big value to the application and development of high speed machining technique.Firstly, this paper collects a lot of production datum. Secondly, factors impacting on the process decision-making are analysed, and comprehensive process evaluation index system is established. Thirdly, this paper discusses many kinds of mufti-targets comprehensive evaluation methods, and chooses four methods including rough set theory, fuzzy synthetic evaluation, TOPSIS evaluation method and gray relative analysis method to establish evaluation models. Giving a practical machining sample, the four algorithms are used to evaluate high speed milling, CNC milling and normal milling. Then, this paper analyses the four algorithms and the decisions in order to get the optimal solution and the best evaluation model. Finally, a process decision-making software is designed using Visual Basic 6.0 to make decisions faster, more correctly and accurately. It can alleviate decision-maker's working quantity, and can offer the proposed process to decision-making.
