4-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy) pyridine is an important intermediate used for synthesizing some agricultural chemicals and pharmaceuticals. This paper is about the study of preparation and optimum production process of 4-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy) pyridine.Pyridine is the basic material. 4-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy) pyridine was -synthesized by four steps, such as N-oxidation, nitroation, fluroation, reduction. Pyridine was oxidized by hydrogen peroxide, and nitrated by violet acid. Because of continuous preparation, the organic extraction of the intermediate between N-oxidation and nitroation was omitted. The dosage of organic solvent is decreased with high yield. It was found that the 4-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy) pyridine N-oxide can be produced in solvent of trifluoroethanol with potassium hydroxide as catalyst. Then the title compound was reducted by phosphorus trichloride. The overall yield was 58% in a purity of 99%.The structures and compounds were determined by IR, HPLC, LC-MS and NMR spectra.
