As one main kind of artificial lifts, sucker-rod pumping is widely used in producing heavy oil. The viscosity-temperature law isn't same as that of thin oil. As a result, if those design methods in thin oil well were directly used in heal oil well, it would be in trouble, such as low pump efficiency, short producing time etc. aimed at this problem, firstly the viscosity-temperature law of heavy oil is made. Secondly the equipment is selected and the method is advised to design sucker-rod pumping system. The relative software is done. In detail, the main achievements in this paper are as following:(1) The new experimental facility is developed to test the viscosity in high temperature and high pressure. The heavy oil from TK427 well and S48 well in Tahe field is selected as the sample. The viscosity is tested in conditions of various water ratio and GLR, which have a main effect on the viscosity. New viscosity formula is available by curving experimental data. It is well used to compute pressure distribution, which is theory basis of designing the sucker-rod pumping system.(2) Aimed at viscosity-temperature law of heavy oil, pumping unit, sucker rod and oil well pump is analyzed. How to select the equipment for pump well is established, which provides hardware condition for sucker-rod pumping system.(3) Based on design discipline of sucker-rod pumping system, design approach is improved. Design method in pump well for heavy oil is available for higher pump efficiency and more oil production and how to improve pump efficiency is analyzed in detail.(4) The software of optimum design of sucker-rod pumping system is made, which comprises data management, data analysis, system option, optimizing design, result output and help. The formula is selected and the answer is right. The user interface is friendly. This software is an important tool to design sucker-rod pump system for heavy oil well.Computation on the test data from Tahe field indicates that the proposed design method can well improve pump efficiency and the cycle of pump inspection. It's good sample for design similar sucker-rod pump system.
