Projection display technology is an effective way to realize large screen display system. As the most important part in projector system, light source dominates system brightness, chromatic performance and other important characters, it's specialities determine the design of illumination system. So light source becomes the focus of the development of projection display technologies.The measurement and analysis of light source is the focus in the dissertation. In order to modeling the light source, the specialities of light source should be known. Based on light source optical modeling and illumination system simulation, the designer can optimize the optical system, and the performance of projection system can be upgraded.Firstly, types, advantage and disadvantage of different light source in projection system are introduced in the paper. The methods of light source optical modeling are also presented.Then, the concept of Optical Extend (Etendue) is explained in the paper, the analyses of the relationship between light source and reflector combination's collection efficiency and etendue, and the relationship between output and etendue are also presented. The light source etendue measurement results provide gist for the illumination system original design.According to light source optical modeling's requirement, based on the analysis of measurement theory in detail, measurement equipments are constructed by using computer control technology and digital image process technology. Light source actual characters are measured by these equipments, error analysis are also presented.Next, in order to eliminate the error of section light intensity measurement result, Computerized Tomography (CT) technology is introduced. After theory analysis, relevant measurement equipment and computer program are constructed, results are also presented.At the end of the dissertation, the orientation to ensure the measurement result precision and light source optical modeling are discussed briefly.
