NC-EDM MILLING, which is a new kind of EDM(Electrical Discharge Machining) technology and is used to machining mechnical parts with high hardness, intensity and toughness. For the advantaged of flexibility, making electrode easily, low cost,short prepare time, it will be applied increasily and be promising in machining moulds.According to principles and characteristics of NC-EDM MILLING, this paper researchs several key techniques, including shaping method, tool wear compensation, agorithm of tool path generation. Based on those, we build a system that can generates NC code automaticly, check NC code and simulate tool tracks for NC-EDM MILLING.The automtic NC programming system of NC-EDM MILLING overcomes the shortages of manual programming, such as designing time is long, reliability is not good, it is easy to make errors and programs are needed to machine tentatively, and so on. It not only makes full use advantage of computer,for example high speed, accuracy, efficiency, but alse integrates man's creativity and experiences. The system fits current productive needs of more flexibility, more varity and shorter time. It saves man-power, reduces productive time and cost.The automatic NC programming system applies strategy of the slicing, and theory of uniform wear on the tip of electrode in ord to simplify the tool compensation. Firstly, it acquires mechnical parts information and formative information through DXF files, because the data is redundant, it needs to reduce data. Secondly it acquires machining information by manual operation, and build slicing mould then gets slicing information, lets tool path be parallel to one line,then acquires the tool track information, and generates NC code files finally. It can verify the correction of NC code with the compiler principle, and Tool tracking can be displayed on screen by the technology of OpenGL dynamically or statically, and the process of machining can be simulated. We apply modularity design methods because the system is huge, it is easy to debug and integrate.The whole system achives predeterminate functions and runs stably according.it can generate NC code for some mechinacal parts, and check RS-274 G Code programs validly and can display tool tracks on the screen and simulate the machining prcess.
