| This paper focus on the study of montmorillonite modification such as sodium modification and organization .The results show that the traditional modifying agent of Na2CO3 can be replaced by agent A .Factors which affected sodium modification were discussed. The optimum process conditions are obtained by using orthogonal experiment method. Na- montmorillonite with excellent properties was prepared. Each plant got the standard of first-rate sodium montmorillonite.The intercalation effect of montmorillonite modified by self-selected organic modifier is obvious. XRD was used to find organic modifier intercalated the interlayer and the interlayer spacing of montmorillonite changed greatly. It is from 1.51nm up to 3.09nm after organic treatment.Organic montmorillonite were prepared in our lab. Then blended polypropylene with organic montmorillonite. Polypropylene/organic montmorillonite nanocomposites have been successfully prepared by melting extrude method without adding compatilizer. Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) test showed that intercalated nanocomposite was prepared and with only 4.0%wt organic montmorillonite, the notch impact strength of the nanocomposite is more 2 times than pure PP. At the same time the tensile strength and the stiffness of the material increased slightly, particularly the thermostability did not decreased. The preparation technology and the relationship between micro-structure and property of nanocomposites have been studied deeply. Moreover, half-exfoliated nanocomposite was also prepared by controlling the experiment condition. According to the research result, the factors which influence the intercalation and exfoliation of organic montmorillonite have been analyzed. We also analyzed the mechanism for the formation of nanocomposites, the mechanism for exfoliation, and the toughening effect of organic montmorillonite to polypropylene.Choosing the pure EPDM to experiment, which is low mechanical properties and low elongation. Reinforcing effect of carbon black and organic montmorillonite to pure EPDM system was studied by milling method respectively.
