Fake Ionone Industrial Preparation

Pseudoionone is a very valuable one of chemical intermediatesin industry, and also of a perfume compound in itself. Thepreparation of pseudoionone for commercial scale wasinvestigated.Using citral and acetone as starting materials, the aldolcondensation was carried out, and then the final product wasobtained by distillation under vacuum.As for reaction mixtures, all the components, includingreactants, indermediates, and even products, contain a aldehydegroup or a carbonyl one with H, and there are the variousadditions with self-, or crossed reaction. Based onReactivity-Selectivity Principle, all the condensationsproceeded under relatively mild reaction conditions.In order to optimize both the catalytic activity and selectivity,a certain of catalysts, inorganic such as metal oxide, hydroxide,oxysalt, or organic like amine and alkaline polymer, have beenexamined respectively. The catalytic performance of Ba(0H)2 wasadvantageously found out, and as for the yield of desiredobjective, a superior selectivity, as high as 82%,has beenachieved.Furthermore, an alcoholic solvent, being with a kinetic effect,was added favorably to accelerate the reaction rate, however,the process is reversible.All the experimental data were determined by Gas桳iquidchromatograph. With pseudoionone, three structural isomers havebeen discovered, and one among them has not been reported so far.The purity of pseudoionone has come over 99%.
