In this article, the recovery and refining technology of glycerol from the by-product of production biodiesel by trans-esterification was researched. The effect of the reaction conditions and the separation procedure on the yield of glycerol was discussed . The total yield of glycerol was up to 78% based on the theoretical value and the glycerol purity in the end-product was 98% under optimized process.This article described an approach for detection of the content of glycerol in the production of biodiesel and simultaneously production of glycerol . The method of measuring the content of glycerol by titration after using per-iodic acid as oxidant was studied in the production of biodiesel and simultaneously production of glycerol, the recoveries and the relative standard deviations of the method in this system were determined; Another new method for measuring the content of glycerol by derivatization and capillary gas chromatography with flame ionization detector was developed, internal standard method was used for quantitative analysis, the recoveries and the relative standard deviations of this method were also determined. An rapid, economical and accurate method for the detection of the content of glycerol in the production of biodiesel and simultaneously production glycerol was found.
