Because waterborne waterproof coatings have environment-protecting performance, they gain more application. And at present, the application of nano-materials in the area of traditional building materials to upgrade their comprehensive properties is the hotspot of scientific research work. It can obviously improve the mechanical and optical properties of the composite materials by mixing nano-materials into polymer materials. Through the systemic research on the preparation, selection, dispersion and performance analysis of different nano-materials, this paper has selected adaptive nano-material and prepared nano-modified waterproof coating by using different dispersion techniques and different content. Through different characterization methods and performance tests, the paper also comprehensively studies the performance influence of nano-modified waterborne waterproof coating in the area of mechanical and optical properties. The main jobs of the paper are as follows:(1) Nano-sized ZnO particle was synthesized by using a direct precipitation method, and factors of reaction concentration and roasting temperature affecting ZnO particle size were studied. Nano-sized TiO2 particle was synthesized by using a sol-gel method, and different pH values affecting reaction process and roasting temperature affecting particle size were studied. (2) By testing the UV-VIS spectrums of the film-forming materials and different nano-materials, nano-sized ZnO and TiO2 were found to effectively shield ultraviolet which can leads to the aging of the film-forming materials. (3) The dispersion effect of nano-materials in water and polymer latex was studied by using different dispersing agents and techniques. The dispersion effect of composite dispersing agent is better. Nano-materials should be prepared into a waterborne colloid before mixing into latex, and they dispersed in nano-scale and the mechanical property of the composite materials is the best. (4) By a lot of tests, it is found that the sample of waterproof coating modified by 2% nano-sized ZnO has the better mechanical, optical and aging resistance properties.
