In order to improve the physical properties of waterborne acrylic resin coatings,a green modified water-based nano-alumina dispersion AluC-0.50% with 7wt% solid loading was successfully prepared by regulating mass fraction of anti-sedimentation dispersant under the condition of ultrasonication.In adddition,its stability,dispersion and microstructure were also characterized.The analysis of thermogravimetry(TG)、scanning electron microscope(SEM)and field emission transmission electron microscope(TEM)confirm that anti-sedimentation dispersant is successfully decorated on pristine nano-alumina surface.Results obtained from transmittance spectroscopy,particle size and distribution and sedimentation photo reveal that the modified AluC-0.50% dispersion has a high degree of dispersion,and no sedimentation is observed more than 3 months.Then,the water-based nano-alumina dispersion AluC-0.50% could be used to mix with waterborne acrylic resin coating to prepare waterborne coatings WCS-AluC.The results show that this new water-based nano-alumina dispersion has little effect on the gloss and transparency of waterborne coatings.After adding water-based nano-alumina dispersion at 4% mass fraction to waterborne acrylic resin coatings bought from CARPOLY,the hardness of the nano-composite coating is improved from B to HB,the abrasion resistance numbers is increased from less than 5 to more than 15,and the scratch load is enhanced from 1.10 kg to 2.00 kg.Water-based nano-alumina dispersion SiAluC-0.50% was prepared by using organosilicon and was used to mix with waterborne acrylic resin coatings to prepare waterborne coatings WCS-SiAluC.The results show that after adding water-based nano-alumina dispersion at 1% mass fraction to waterborne acrylic resin coatings bought from CARPOLY,the hardness of the nano-composite coating is improved from B to H,the abrasion resistance numbers is increased from less than 5 to more than 20,and the scratch load is enhanced from 1.10 kg to 2.60 kg.
