Thread tapping is a very important working procedure in machining. With the development of modern machining technology, it has. been a weakness procedure in machining. There are several traditional thread tapping method such as: tapping by hand work, tapping by drill press, vibration tapping. Those traditional method are confronted with several problems: having difficulty with conquering dynamic load in tapping and leading to thread breaking, block, abrasion and low machining quality. This paper researches in a new thread machining method梚mpact tapping. The impact tapping system consists of crank-block mechanism and tapping unit, the tapping unit transform line movement of hammer to revolution of thread. The impact tapping system can adapt dynamic load because impact process can centralize great energy to thread.This paper founded dynamics model of impact tapping system, simulating the state of impact tapping system and discipline of its parameter. We can get the output of parameter and basic characteristic of impact tapping system.This paper simplified the system soundly and properly, constituting its physical model. We divide the movement process of impact system to four stages: hollow travel stage, cushion stage, tapping stage, return stage. We founded dynamics model of impact tapping system based on work-energy principle and Lagrange equation. Furthermore, we transform it to simulation model and write computer program. Through the solution of simulation model in various work condition, we draw some following conclusions:1. the constitution of dynamics model and simulation model of impact tapping system.2. velocity and acceleration curve of crank and hammer in hollow travel stage.3. velocity, acceleration and force curve of hammer, top housing andthread in cushion stage.4. angular velocity, angular acceleration and torque curve of thread in tapping stage.The research of this paper can improve and perfect technology and method of impact tapping. Through the adjustment of physical parameter and structure parameter of system, we can get the displacement, velocity, acceleration, force of the system in various work condition. As a result, it provide instruction in structure design and parameter choice of this system.
