The design, synthesis and relative propeities of functional coordination compounds are focus in the fields of coordination chemistry. In molecular magnetism of bridged polynuclear complexes, according to the main routes of designing magnetic molecules, a series of polynuclear transition- mental complexes have been synthesized and characterized by means of elemental analyses, IR, ESR, electronic spectra, molar conductance, room-temperature and variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements. Based on the coordination field theory and molecular orbital theory, the spin-exchange interaction between paramagnetic metal ions in the bridged polynuclear complexes has been studied. The electrochemical and thermal decomposition of polynuclear complexes have been discussed, which have opened the studies of polynuclear complexes in various fields. The important and valuable work in this paper can be summarized as follows:1. Eleven novol -oxamido-bridged copper(II)-lanthanoid(III) heterobi-nuclear complexes described by the overall formula Cu(obp)Ln-(Ph2-phen)2ClO4 ( Ln = Y, La, Sm, Nd, Eu, Gd, Dy, Tb, Ho, Er, Yb) were synthesized. The reaction may be expressed as the following equation :Cu(obp)2- + Ln(C104)3 + 2 Ph2-phen - [Cu(obp)Ln(Ph2-phen)2ClO4] + 2 C1O4-( Ln = Y, La, Sm, Nd, Eu, Gd, Dy, Tb, Ho, Er, Yb)2. Four new oxalato-bridged iron(III)-iron(III) binuclear complexes have been synthesized and characterized , namely [F 62(0x^2]. The reactionmay be expressed as the following equation: [Fe(ox)3]3- + Fe(ClO4)3 + 2 L - [Fe2(ox)3L2] + 3 ClO4-(L = Me2-phen, Ph2-phen, en, pn)3. A new -oxalato-bridged oxovanadium(IV)-copper(II) heterobinuclear complex described by the overall formula {[VO(C2O4)L2]Cu}(ClO4)2 (L = bpy). The reaction may be expressed as the following equation:[VO(C2O4)L] + Cu(ClO4)2 + L - {[VO(C2O4)L2]Cu}(ClO4)2 (L = bpy) The electrochemical behavior of the heterobinuclear complex has been discussed using cyclic voltammetry.4. The thermal decomposition of two new copper(II)-lanthanoid(III) hetero-binuclear complexes bridged by oxamido and -oxalato-bridged oxo-vanadium(IV)-copper(II) heterobinuclear complex has been studied under dynamic air atmosphere. Through comparison of the kinetic parameters, we have proposed the most probable kinetic model function.
