In this paper, six novel inorganic/organic hybrid complexes 2 [Co(phen)]V2O6-H2O 1, 1 [Cu(phen)]V2O6 2, [(CuCl)2(phen)] 3, [(CuBr)2(phen)] 4, [(Cul)2(phen)2] 5, [Cd(PT)(H2O)]n 6 have been hydrothermally synthesized through modifying synthetic conditions and starting materials. Structures of the six complexes have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction, and the influencing factors on structures of hybrid complexes have been discussed. Both complexes 1 and 2 are constructed of simple [M(phen)]2+(M = Co(1), Cu(2)) fragments and {V2O6} oxide chains by covalent-bond linking. Complex 1 exhibits an interesting 4, 6-member layered structure linked alternatively by Co(phen) fragments and {V2O6} oxide chains. The structure of 2 can be described as a ribbon made up of a pair of {V2O6} oxide chains bridged by [Cu(phen)]2+ fragments. Complex 1 shows antiferromagnetic behavior, while complex 2 mainly exhibits ferromagnetic behavior. Complexes 3 and 4 are isostructural and exhibit unique one-dimensional (1D) chainlike copper halide scaffolding constructed by the unusual [Cu3X3] hexagon motifs by sharing opposite edges. Complex 5 is a binuclear copper iodide, which is firstly determined by X-ray diffraction. Complexes 3 and 4 show the extinction of fluorescence. The successful isolation of 6 provides the first example of cadmium phthalate with extended structure, exhibiting an interesting two-dimensional (2D) Cd-O-Cd honeycombed framework, in which phthalate ligand shows interesting coordination modes. Complex 6 exhibits strong fluorescent emission and may be an excellent candidate for potential photoactive material. Other characterizations for these six complexes by elemental analysis, IR, ESR, XPS, and thermal analysis have also been described.
